Duties

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

  • Strives to implement by the performance of job responsibilities the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives
  • Utilizes teacher diagnostic techniques in determining learning strengths and weaknesses of students enrolled in various special education self-contained programs or resource instructional programs
  • Develops educational prescriptions with corresponding educational and behavioral objectives for students
  • Implements a program of study that, as much as possible , meets the individual learning needs and interest of students
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within limit of the resources provided by the District
  • Prepares for classroom assignment, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Utilizes instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated educational and behavioral objectives
  • Evaluates student performance relative to accomplishment of educational and behavioral objectives at minimum two times per year (January and May)
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom conducive to learning
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to the following):

  1. Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the district
  2. Professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advance course work at institutions or higher learning
  3. Conducts parent teacher conferences on an as-needed basis
  4. Writes narrative end-of-the-year progress reports on each student enrolled in the teacher’s classroom
  5. Participates in staff conferences and annual reviews of educational placement and progress
  6. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as recommended by law, District policy, and administrative regulation
  7. Takes all necessary and reasonable caution to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  8. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials
  9. Serves on curriculum and/or other committees related to special education or regular education
  10. Assists in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  11. Administers one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students.
  12. Actively participates in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
  13. Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.
  14. Monitor, observe and report behavior of students according to approved procedures, including progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  15. Communicates effectively, both written and oral with students, administration, staff and co-workers.
  16. Assists students in developing self-help and self-advocacy skills as directed.
  17. Assists in implementing specialized student plans (IEP, BIP, 504,) as needed.
  18. Directs student groups as assigned.
  19. Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom.
  20. Helps implement classroom management systems as applicable – Daily Progress Report (DPR).
  21. Follows Board policies, district procedures and contractual obligations.
  22. Demonstrate the initiative to be proactive in resolving issues, concerns, student behaviors or problems.
  23. Inform school administrators of all student behaviors, issues, and/or problems.
  24. Exercise respect and collaboration when interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
  25. Complete all incident reports ASAP or by the end of your shift and file for future reference. 
  26. Exercise confidentiality in regard to all work related situations.
  27. Other duties as assigned by the Principal or the Director of Special Education

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teachers require a Professional Educator’s License w/ LBS1
