Duties

  1. To assist the classroom teachers, achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve appropriate skill levels.
  2. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and/or diagnostic tests
  3. Working with individual students or small groups fo students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teachers or in consultation with the teachers.
  4. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work in consultation with the teachers
  5. Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  6. Participates in in-service training programs as assigned
  7. Escorts children to and from rooms and playground
  8. Supervises loading and unloading of buses, lunchrooms and recess
  9. Assists with the necessary paperwork and maintains a daily log of students. 
  10. Provides written documentation, when needed, of acute behavior problems experienced by referred students.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the administration regarding student supervision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:School year position. Specific work schedule determined annually by the administration.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Paraprofessional license from Illinois State Board of Education Required.
  • A sincere interest in, positive attitude toward, and enthusiasm for working with students of various ages.
  • Ability to empathize with children and to remain composed and patient with difficult behavior.
  • Ability to follow directions and carry out assigned tasks independently and in an organized manner.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to high professional standards, ethics, and ability to remain student confidentiality.
