Duties

  1. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  2. Creates an environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  3. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  4. Implement and carry out all applicable policies, rules and regulations, and decisions of the Board of Education and the administration.
  5. Be a team building member that will share matters relating to the improvement of the educational program with the principal.
  6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  7. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  8. Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  9. Maintain a classroom climate conductive to learning.
  10. Practice, and help students acquire the values, attitudes, and skills necessary to become resourceful and creative self-sufficient citizens.
  11. Continually plan learning activities that recognize the different needs, abilities and skills necessary for effective participation in our diverse society.
  12. Assist students with understanding and the application of classroom learning to everyday situations and for life-long learning.
  13. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and—in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  14. Maintains accurate and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  16. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required to do so under reasonable terms.
  17. Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  18. Encourage parent and community involvement; obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answers emails.
  19. Participating in In-Service education and training courses as well as in continuing professional development opportunities.
  20. Assign and grade class work homework, tests, and assignments.
  21. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
  22. Attend staff meetings or other meetings related to the school curriculum and serves on staff committees as required.
  23. Demonstrates an interest in students beyond the classroom by attending school functions.
  24. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  25. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  26. Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work in a regular and punctual basis.
  27. Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  28. To perform other tasks as may be assigned by the district administrator in conformation with applicable district personnel policies and practices.

Qualifications

  • Illinois State certification in teaching in appropriate subject area.
  • And/or complete a state approved preparation program or hold a valid and comparable out-of-state certificate.
  • Meet all coursework and testing requirements, and meet all other requirements detailed in Illinois statute and rules

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits adhere to the Cairo Association of Teachers contract with the Board of Education.
