Assessment: Evaluates student behaviors in the school, determines strengths and needs, and develops data to share with the clinical team.

Crisis prevention and intervention: Provides consultation and support to students, parents, and school employees to assist with crisis prevention and intervention. Provides direct crisis intervention to students as needed.

Program Coordination: Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to maintain and foster a coordinated program for children.

  1. Coordinate self-regulation stations and supports for Assisted Recovery, Sensory, and Calming rooms
  2. In coordination with Supervisory team, will develop and maintain staff training and mentoring program

Consultation with Teachers: Serves as a consultant to classroom teachers in developing and implementing behavioral and teaching strategies.

Service/Treatment Planning: As part of the interdisciplinary team provide data to assist in the development, monitoring, reviewing, and modifying of Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s) for assigned students throughout the period of service provision. Coordinate and oversee student and staff debriefing needs and supports.

Professional Leadership:

  1. Models the agency’s core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, excellence, stewardship and diversity in all activities and interactions.
  2. Represents the agency in contact with professionals and the public outside the agency.
  3. Exercises professional leadership by keeping abreast of current trends and developments in special education.
  4. Provides training to supervisors and employees on topics related to the field of knowledge, as needed.
  5. Assists in monitoring program and staff compliance with State of Illinois Rules and Regulations for Special Education

Teamwork: Coordinates the efforts of the treatment team and models effective teamwork in the delivery of services.  Consults and collaborates with other professionals and community resources as needed to benefit program developments.

Recordkeeping: Maintains required case records and monthly statistics, according to agency guidelines for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

Documentation: Completes all required documentation according to program requirements for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.  These include assessments and student/classroom observations. 

Legal and ethical responsibilities: Complies with all pertinent state and federal laws and applicable professional codes of ethics.  Complies with all ISBE Restraint and Time out Paperwork.

Professional Development: Enhances professional competence through ongoing awareness of developments in the field of childhood/adolescent mental health treatment and special education.  Assists with training, supervision, and evaluation of student interns and new staff, as assigned.

  1. Coordinate trainings in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Trauma Informed Practices, Conscious Discipline, and Love and Logic
  2. Coordinate trainings on ISBE Restraint and Time out Procedures

Quality Improvement: Contributes to quality improvement through active participation in Quality Improvement activities.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience in alternative education setting and/or supervisory experience. Degree in social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Professional licensure through ISBE or the Department of Professional Regulation required.
  • Knowledge of and skills necessary to apply the principles of childhood/adolescent mental health treatment and special education to Hammitt School students.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team structure.
  • Knowledge of and skill in utilizing behavioral approaches with children.
  • Must be able to implement nonviolent physical crisis intervention techniques according to The Baby Fold’s physical management and crisis intervention procedures.
  • Demonstrated competence in providing mental health supports to childhood/adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral disorders and supportive services to the parents of adolescents.
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.
  • Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
  • Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including a valid Illinois driver’s license, which has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff within The Baby Fold, as well as with necessary collateral contacts.
  • Mission oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s standards and beliefs to the performance of job duties.
