Duties

The employee must perform this job successfully and the individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

  • The employee will work harmoniously with other and communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and teachers.
  • The employee will understand and follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision.
  • The employee will use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, efficiency, and safety.
  • The employee will have knowledge of cleansing methods and the use, care and safety of cleaning materials and equipment.
  • The employee will have knowledge of requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • The employee will follow instructions from the night shift lead person.
  • The employee will perform physical requirements that may include:
    • moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
    • frequent and prolonged use of extremities overhead.
    • reaching, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, manual dexterity, good vision and hearing.
    • operating buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, mops, brooms, dust pans, ladders, small hand tools, carpet shampooers, lawn mowers and other equipment.
    • climbing ladders, stretching and bending to perform cleaning, repairs, painting, and cleaning of roofs, gutters, and drains.
    • walking to various locations within the school buildings and the grounds.
    • working primarily in a standing position.
    • possible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student injury or illness.
  • The employee will work primarily during the evening hours when school is in session and change to daytime hours at other times of the year.
  • The employee will demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students.
  • The employee will clean areas of the school as assigned (i.e. classrooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium, etc.) sweep, scrub, vacuum; mop, wax, buff floors; wash windows; dust, clean blind/curtains and screens; clean chalk/white boards; dust; paint; replace light bulbs, make minor repairs, etc.
  • The employee will dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
  • The employee will sweep walks and entrances and pick up debris on the grounds, clean drains, gutters and roofs.
  • The employee will wash, scrub, disinfect rest rooms and locker rooms daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures, door panels, and drinking fountains daily.
  • The employee will clean up spills, pick up trash, respond to special requests for custodial services from faculty members with supervisor approval and use proper personal protective equipment.
  • The employee will pick up litter, empty and clean trash containers and empty paper in the main recycling bin.
  • The employee will clean and wash windows, walls, and walkways, patios, and other outside areas.
  • The employee will set up, take down, and move furniture, shelving and partitions as assigned.
  • The employee will assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entryways, and driveways and spread sand and salt to prevent slipping.
  • The employee will perform routine groundskeeping duties during the day shift.
  • The employee will clean and polish any metal works such as hand railings.
  • The employee will climb ladders, clean lighting equipment, and replace light bulbs or fluorescent tubes as needed.
  • The employee will maintain security of the building by ensuring that doors and windows are locked; the employee will report unlocked doors and windows, fire hazards, and persons acting suspiciously; and the employee will deny access to unauthorized persons.
  • The employee will requisition custodial supplies and equipment as directed and assist in maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • The employee will check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • The employee will assist in greeting and directing visitors to the appropriate person and location.
  • The employee will maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student and staff information.
  • The employee will maintain cleaning tools, equipment, and materials in proper condition.
  • The employee will participate in complete cleaning and routine maintenance of building during the summer and winter breaks.
  • The employee will participate in in-service programs as assigned.
  • The employee will maintain satisfactory attendance, as defined in District Policy.
  • The employee will perform other work as assigned by Superintendent, the Director of Building and Grounds, or designee.

High School Diploma or equivalent; statement of good physical condition to perform duties

This current position is a full-time, permanent one.
