  1. Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (band, instrumental ensemble) and/or choral music (chorus,  choral ensemble); utilizes course of study adopted by the Board that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  2. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  3. Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  4. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the students.
  5. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments and equipment as required.
  6. Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  7. Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical performances for school and community; applies knowledge of district procedures and limitations set on performances.
  8. Counsels with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.
  9. Attends staff meetings (as appropriate).
  10. Performs other tasks (as appropriate).

Qualifications:    Appropriate State of Illinois License and Endorsement in content area, as needed

Purpose:  To develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.
