Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Executive Director of Learning Services is a District leader who will assist with the development, implementation, organization and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs, assessment and data, grants, professional development, technology programs, and district initiatives targeted to improve the educational achievement of all students and employees.

The Executive Director of Learning Services works in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning services on the adoption, development, and integration of current and new curriculum, and assessment and data collection. The Executive Director also serves as a team member in the administration of all state and local assessments and contributes to the various committees across the district. This position is responsible for assisting in coordinating state and district assessments; generating reports to stakeholders including the Board of Education; working with schools for school improvement using assessment data.

  1. Identifies and implements practices which lead to effective education and services for students, in compliance with federal and state regulations, and district policy.
  2. Communicate with colleagues, students, parents, administration, and the community as needed to meet professional standards.
  3. Assists in the analysis, planning, development, and revision of curricular materials, and the development of curricular guides.
  4. Support teachers in using data to improve instruction for all students.
  5. Schedule and assist with the textbook adoption process in conjunction with the district-level committees.
  6. Assist with preparation of information for grant applications (Federal, State, local) and related materials for general education.
  7. Oversees the internal and external professional development activities for the district.
  8. Ensures that the district staff development program addresses the learning needs of all staff and operates systematically.
  9. Administers and monitors the district requirements for personnel attending staff / professional development programs.
  10. Administers and monitors teacher mentoring program while acting as a primary resource for newly hired certified staff.
  11. Assists in providing leadership for several district committees in the area of curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development, and technology.
  12. Assists in the monitoring and development of current and future curriculum.
  13. Assists in coordinating, interpreting and monitoring the student assessment programs for the school district.
  14. Assists in policy analysis and policy development related to curriculum, professional development, student services, and technology.
  15. Coordinates technology into the curriculum, instruction, assessment, staff development, and everyday operations of the school district.
  16. Designs and monitors staff development programs to support district curriculum and technology.
  17. Maintains and ensures the legality of program license agreements.
  18. Demonstrates understanding of legal and ethical responsibilities for educational responsibility.
  19. Recognizes the value and adapts the training needs of a diverse workforce.
  20. Demonstrates knowledge of organizational and staff development theories and best practices in adult education.
  21. Works with Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services to provide support to building leadership.
  22. Performs such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services.


Qualification Requirements:

  1. Valid Illinois administrative endorsement and meets qualifications to hold position according to ISBE.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience required.
  3. Previous administration experience required.
  4. Experience providing leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  5. Ability to work toward interdisciplinary instruction with other departments.
  6. Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  7. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in demanding situations.
