Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Provide leadership in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of Kindergarten transition in the following ways:
      • Coordinates the transition of students from Early Childhood, Head Start, Home Daycares and the Community into Kindergarten
      • Communicates and Collaborates with leadership from Urbana School District, Early Childhood, Head Start, Home Daycares and the Community 
      • Facilitate the registration and academic screening of all incoming Kindergarten students.
      • Recruits, coordinates, and facilitates meetings with all elementary Kindergarten Transition Building Coordinators 
      • Provide additional academic support to incoming Kindergartners who do not have prior school experience based on kindergarten screening and the Response to Intervention/RtI process.
      • Based on data from kindergarten screening supporting teachers/students with additional intervention strategies to establish a strong literacy foundation.
  • Assist the Director of Family Engagement and Student Supports in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of:
    • Literacy-based Professional development activities that enhance the goals of the Title I program.
    • Family engagement activities as related to the District’s goals and Title I requirements.
    • Requisition materials essential to carry out the Title I program.
    • Participate in and when appropriate, facilitate meetings regarding the Title I program initiatives.
    • Implement quarterly communication with Urbana School District #116 staff regarding Title 1.
    • Identifies needs and plans for developmentally appropriate practices in the Kindergarten classroom environments
    • Attends trainings or conferences related to Kindergarten and literacy practices to provide latest pedagogical methods and instructional resources 
    • Facilitates collaborations between Urbana Early Childhood School and Kindergarten staff
    • Provides Kindergarten staff with curricular resources and materials

OTHER PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates and works closely with the Director of Family Engagement and Student Supports concerning the implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and programs.
  • Performs the needed administrative tasks for effective implementation.
  • Co-facilitate Family Engagement Workshops with the Family Academic Support and Engagement/FASE teams throughout the school district.
  • Provide instructional coaching support to literacy interventionists to strengthen students’ literacy skills.
  • Identifies and submits purchase orders for materials, teaching supplies, and equipment needed.
  • Coordinate programs to develop or strengthen professional skills in teachers and other staff members in supporting student achievement, teacher development, and parent involvement.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with selecting, ordering, and collecting required assessment data; disaggregate data from assessments to enhance instruction and student success.
  • Provide academic and social emotional support systems for students transitioning from The Urbana Early Childhood Center/Head Start to elementary school, elementary school to middle school, and middle school to high school to enhance their academic success and social emotional growth. 
  • Attends staff meetings, Title I meetings, Program Council, Racial Equity, and District Family Engagement Committee meetings.
  • Maintain Chromebook Inventory in collaboration with the district technology department.
  • Serve on district committees as a representative of Title I and Kindergarten Readiness and Transition.
  • Communicate positively and clearly with district administrators to create a positive, supportive, and effective working environment. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.     Illinois Teaching License
  2.     Ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
  3.     Knowledge and use of multiple assessment tools, diagnostic procedures and best practice literacy strategies.

 Preferred:

  1.     Master’s degree in Curriculum or Teacher Leadership
  2.     Experience providing teacher training
  3.     Knowledge and experience with Kindergarten transition
  4.     Bilingual or Spanish Speaking 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 days with 20 additional days to be used as needed.  Additional days beyond the teachers’ calendar are paid per diem.

EVALUATION: Performance in the position shall be evaluated in accordance with the District Evaluation procedures by the Director of Family Engagement and Student Supports.
