Essential Functions:

  1. Support the philosophy and vision of Hillside School District 93
  2. Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on
  3. improving student achievement.
  4. Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  5. Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in
  6. Increased student performance.
  7. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  8. Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching with participants to support them in
  9. implementing good instructional practices in ELA/Literacy and Technology.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.
  2. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  3. Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
  4. Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data when
  5. requested.
  6. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  7. Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
  8. Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
  9. Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.
  10. Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  11. Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.
  12. Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
  13. Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  14. Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
  15. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
  16. Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.
  17. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
  18. Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of
  19. safety/ethics involving students in classroom observed.
  20. Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum and Assessment and Director of Technology
  21. Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.
  22. Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments
  23. Work collaboratively and collegially with other Instructional Coaches and Outside Consultant
  24. Conduct focused classroom ELA/Literacy and technology demonstration lessons, observations and provide specific feedback to teachers
  25. Identify technology integration competencies among instructional staff in collaboration with administrators and deliver appropriate coaching, training and resources to support professional growth of adult learners
  26. Provide training and support to certified and classified staff in the use of instructional and district standard software/application products for the purpose of improving work efficiency and effectiveness by enhancing the ability to use new and existing software/applications.
  27. Coach teachers in and model design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences using a variety of research-based, learner-centered instructional strategies, resources, and assessment tools. 
  28. Assist in identifying, planning, and facilitating workshops, Institute Day and School Improvement activities that contribute to the training and development of staff
  29. Support the Director of Curriculum and Assessment in large-scale assessment administration.
  30. Coordinate action research in collaboration with teachers and PLT/PLC groups to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching support.
  31. Participate in the decision making processes related to instructional technology acquisition and deployment.



  • Illinois Type 3 or 9 Teacher Certificate
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Three years of successful classroom teaching experience in a technology-rich learning environment
  • Three years of successful classroom teaching experience in ELA/Literacy
  • Proven track record in use of best practice instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional coaching relationships, solve problems, plan collaboratively and provide feedback effectively
  • Demonstrated skills in working with adult learners
  • Experience teaching key content area curriculum
  • Experience with teachers as a staff developer



Employment Term: Teachers Contract plus 10 additional curriculum planning days paid at the hourly rate in the collective bargaining agreement
