Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Programs

  1. In conjunction with the Board, Superintendent, Administrators and staff, ensures that the District’s philosophy of education; educational goals and policies are achieved.
  2. Ensures that State and Federal mandates are followed (i.e. affirmative action, special education).
  3. Collaborates with Board, Superintendent, Administration, staff, students and community to develop an efficient, effective and current curriculum that is aligned with state and federal standards and Board policies.
  4. Works with Board, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Administration, staff, students and community to acquire needed instructional supplies and equipment.
  5. Ensures that all Board approved programs are offered (i. e. Guidance services, special education, vocational education, tutorials, homebound instruction, independent study, current events, field trips, regular education, co-curricular and extracurricular programs, interscholastic athletics, extended learning, adult education and home education).
  6. Serves as the instructional leader with a focus on providing educational programs that comply with state, federal, district, student staff and community needs.

 Pupils

  1. Ensures that the registration procedures, attendance laws and child accounting regulations for all eligible school aged children residing in the District, and all non- resident children desiring to attend the District, shall be followed.
  2. Monitors the curricular program to ensure that it meets local, state and federal mandates and includes detailed assessment, promotion, retention and reporting procedures.
  3. Maintains a curricular program and standards that are designed to meet established graduation requirements and to provide for post-graduation success.
  4. Develops and implements an emergency plan that provides for the medical well-being and safety of the students.
  5. In conjunction with the Board, Superintendent, administration, and staff develops and implements a disciplinary policy that meets the requirements of all applicable laws and mandates while preserving the instructional integrity and safety of the building.
  6. Supervises district and building programs with regard to student eligibility and participation and staff performance.
  7. Plans and coordinates student recognition activities.
  8. Schedule all mandated testing as required.
  9. Evaluate test data and coordinate an action plan to improve student performance as required.
  10. Establish high expectations and standards for behavior and performance.
  11. Develop student handbook annually.
  12. Provide orientation for new students.

 Employees

  1. Collaborates with the Superintendent to develop and implement systems for the recruitment, employment, assignment and transfer, evaluation, in-service and development, and compensation and benefits for professional staff.
  2. Works with Superintendent and administrators to ensure that programs and procedures are implemented and maintained that protect the employees’ due process rights, medical well-being and safety.
  3. Supervises employees to enhance the performance of their duties.
  4. Evaluate professional employees and support staff in a constructive manner.
  5. In collaboration with the Superintendent, and administrative staff, develops procedures to communicate District information to the employees (i. e memos, bulletins, faculty meetings, liaison committees, building committees).
  6. Monitors the efforts of district staff in implementing curriculum.
  7. Assures that the approved curriculum is being taught.
  8. Monitor, evaluate and assist employees in providing standards based instruction.
  9. Develops, implements and maintains all employee schedules in accordance with applicable contracts, mandates, and policies.
  10. Monitor and secure substitute teacher coverage for classes as necessary.
  11. Establish high expectations and standards for conduct and performance of employees.

 Finances

  1. In collaboration with Superintendent and Business Manager, develops, implements and maintains budgets for:
  2. State and federal programs
  3. Staff development and in-service
  4. Instructional materials and supplies
  5. Assessment
  6. Instruction
  7. Building operations
  8. Student, staff and community recognition
  9. In conjunction with the Board, Superintendent, administration, staff and community, develops goals and objectives that will guide the budget development.

 

 

 Operations

  1. Shall assist the Superintendent as directed to develop and implement plans for dealing with the operations of the District, that include, but are not limited to:
  2. Maintaining public records
  3. School organization
  4. School calendar
  5. Reporting requirements
  6. Daily schedule
  7. Daily operation
  8. School safety and emergency evacuations
  9. Technology use
  10. Instructional practices
  11. Co-curricular or extra-curricular participation
  12. Student achievement and accomplishments
  13. Curricular development
  14. Staff Development
  15. Student Assemblies/Field Trips

 Community

  1. Shall establish procedures for communication between and among the Board, staff, media, public and other business, governmental, and educational organizations of the community, region and state.
  2. Shall promote the District through a planned public relations objective that includes periodic attendance at school events, news releases, serving on selected school and community committees, and interacting with the staff, students and community.
  3. Shall maintain relations with other educational organizations, community organizations and school-related groups.
  4. Maintain a positive school climate.

Qualifications

  1. Masters Degree in the field of Educational Leadership.
  2. Five (5) years of prior related school district experience.
  3. An additional three years (3) of administrative experience preferred.
  4. An understanding of school administration and the duties of a principal as an educational leader.
  5. Eligibility to hold a valid Principal’s certificate as issued by the Illinois Department of Education.
