Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily: 

• Provide continuous and systematic procedures and opportunities for professional growth for classroom teachers (e.g., through demonstrations, in-service courses, workshops, seminars, conference reports).

• Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to math instruction.

• Assist in the evaluation of on-going programs and make recommendations for change.

• Assist the building principal and other administrators and/or supervisors in implementing the school math instruction.

• Orient beginning teachers and school aides as to the philosophy, procedures and materials for the school math program.

• Help teachers diagnose math strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.

• Work with staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the math program with the curriculum.

• Consult with curriculum committees studying such topics as textbook selection, concept development, supplementary materials and the development of study skills.

• Assist classroom teachers by providing them with additional materials and/or strategies for those students who have been identified as being in need of additional support.

• Work with the classroom teacher and district personnel to coordinate math instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.

• Keep school staff informed as to new developments in math instruction.

• Provide leadership in developing a kindergarten through grade 8 developmental math program.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree, from an accredited college or university, with training and certification as a Mathematics Specialist.

EXPERIENCE

  • Successful teaching experience, at the elementary or middle level.
  • Successful experience as a math specialist preferred

Salary/Benefits

The work year for this position is 180 days.  Salary is in accordance with the teacher salary schedule.  The District offers excellent fringe benefits, including life, health and dental insurance.
