Duties

The Vocational Coach assists in instruction and implementation of the vocational program at Hammitt Junior-Senior High School.  The Vocational Coach assists students in obtaining their vocational objectives as outlined in their individual education programs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree in education and previous experience in a special education setting with a relevant population preferred.
  2. Paraprofessional approval (or ability to obtain upon hire) required. Substitute Teacher licensure in the State of Illinois preferred.
  3. Good emotional and physical health, including the physical ability to implement The Baby Fold’s approved therapeutic crisis intervention procedures.
  4. Must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain a school bus driver license permit upon hire.
  5. Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including a valid Illinois driver’s license which has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years, and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance. 
  6. Willingness and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team structure.
  7. Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
  8. Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
  9. Mission-oriented and able to apply The Baby Fold’s beliefs and standards to the performance of job duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, write, talk and hear; sit, stand, or walk;  kneel, crouch, bend, pivot, stretch, and twist; use hands to type, write, grasp, hold or handle objects, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally team lift and/or move students up to 150 pounds; and physically restrain aggressive students according to therapeutic crisis intervention guidelines.  Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary

 

Vision and hearing requirements: Close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; visually assess a child’s well-being and provide auditory assessments of the mental and emotional condition of a child; and communicate effectively with, staff, clients, and others in person, by telephone, and in writing.

 

Cognitive abilities: Employees must be able to use deductive reasoning to apply general rules to specific problems; demonstrate problem sensitivity to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; demonstrate social perceptiveness by being aware of others’ reactions and why they act as they do; and use self-awareness to be aware of one’s feelings and behaviors.
