Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide educational services to students who are visually impaired ages 3 to 21

  2. Complete functional vision assessments and written reports

  3. Conduct evaluations of the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students, and written reports

  4. Facilitate students in acquiring the ability to move about and travel safely and efficiently both within and beyond

    familiar confines of the school community

  5. Participate in IEP meetings and assist the team in determining education needs related to vision

  6. Recommend specialized materials, equipment, and technology to meet the students’ educational needs

  7. Provide training on materials, equipment, and technology to students and staff, as needed

  8. Communicate and plan with teachers about the modification of instructions to meet the students’ educational needs

  9. Adapt materials for students who are visually impaired

  10. Communicate with Special Education Case Managers and Dept. Chairs

  11. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with Blind, Visually Impaired endorsement

  2. Certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)
