Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.


  • An interventionist addresses the specific needs of students when Tier One classroom instruction is not sufficient.  Interventionists work with teachers to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for students.
  • Responsibilities include leading professional development for teachers.
  • Consult frequently with general education teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using our progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
  • Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change. 
  • Help teachers identify reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and resources. 
  • Keep parents informed as to the purposes and progress of the reading program.
  • Work with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the reading program with the total curriculum. 
  • Work with the classroom teacher and district personnel to coordinate ELA instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students. 
  • Attending professional development and training related to ELA programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research. 
  • Experience with the MTSS process.
  • Attend Induction Academy for teachers new to District in August 2019.


  • Certification/License:
  • IL State Certification with a Reading Specialist Endorsement (Required)
  • IL State Certification in the appropriate grade level


  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education
