ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned):

  • Plan and supervise all in-house maintenance and custodial work assignments.
  • Closely monitor and regulate H.V.A.C. systems through the Building Automation System.
  • Inspect, operate, repair, maintain and troubleshoot all building systems, including but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, custodial and grounds equipment or other building systems and equipment as required.
  • Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment to complete project and daily work assignments.
  • Assist in the selection, assignment, evaluation, scheduling, training and discipline of all maintenance and custodial staff.
  • Assist in the planning and management of the District capital improvement and energy management initiatives as well as the justification and implementation of these plans.
  • Assists with the coordination, scheduling and oversight of work activities performed by outside contractors and technicians when necessary.
  • Perform inspections and surveys on equipment or systems.
  • Order parts and supplies and effectively maintain sufficient stock of parts and supplies.
  • Respond after-hours to all types of alarms or emergencies as necessary.
  • Travel between buildings and campuses using the district vehicle to perform work assignments.
  • Assist with the set-up of facilities related to district sponsored or outside organization special events.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and flexibility in response to rapidly changing tasks and priorities.
  • Use computer applications such as work order, spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and other database software applications.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Buildings and Grounds




  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership role in a school district, healthcare facility, large commercial or manufacturing operation.
  • High School Diploma or its equivalence. Building engineering, craft licensing or trade school certification is strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and practical application of skill sets in a variety of disciplines including but not limited to boilers, carpentry, custodial services, electrical, energy efficiency, HVAC systems, mechanical, painting, plumbing, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings or schematics and follow written or oral instructions.
  • Must be highly organized and possess the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, school district personnel and community members
  • Must be computer literate with extensive knowledge and experience operating Building Automation systems (BAS) and Work Order systems.
  • Must be able to work a flexible shift, days or afternoons as necessary, and be available for emergency call response after hours.
