Duties

Mid-State Special Education is seeking qualified candidates for 1 School Social Worker opening for the 2019-2020 school year. The primary task of the School Social Worker is to provide the supportive services necessary to allow all students to make the best use of their educational opportunities as they develop their individual potential to the fullest extent. The School Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The School Social Worker significantly contributes to the development of a healthy, safe and caring environment by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences on student success and by implementing effective intervention strategies.

Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed with SSW • Master’s Degree in School Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program with a specialization in school social work • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain automotive insurance coverage as required by IL law

Salary/Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience, board paid TRS and contribution toward single insurance, professional development, mileage reimbursement, mentoring and support.

Essential Job Functions: May include, but are not limited to, the following • Uses knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for student success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, consultation, program development, dropout prevention and coordination of school and community services, • Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families, • Consults and collaborates with stakeholders on behalf of students and their families, • Effectively plans, implements and evaluates programs that promote student and family success and demonstrates accountability by documenting the positive outcomes resulting from the services provided.
