Duties

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  The Speech Language Pathologist provides therapies for students who exhibit special education needs in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency in order to help students’ meet their educational goals

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implements appropriate therapies to meet students’ speech/language needs.
2. Submits end of ESY reports for student’s file and to next year’s speech therapist.
3. Works cooperatively with staff to accomplish students’ IEP goals.
4. Maintains appropriate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information.
5. Consults with parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s performance in the classroom.
6. Collaborates with school staff in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
7. Provides staff consultation on speech/language issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
8. Supports and implements District policies and procedures, regulations, and administrative directives.
9. Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education
10.Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A valid/registered Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Speech Language Pathologist endorsement.
  • Recent experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferrable at elementary (with the exception of new graduates)
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of speech-language therapy,methods and procedures for assessment and treatment of communication disorders (speech sound production and use, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, oral motor, etc). 
  • State and federal laws and regulations regarding special education records, due process, service provision and speech language pathology.
  • Ability to write & implement Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, team members, and others.

Salary/Benefits

COMPENSATION: Per Teacher Salary Schedule based on education and experience. District 308 grants experience credit on the salary schedule for up to 10 years of prior, verifiable, contractual full-time teaching experience.
