Duties

JOB FUNCTION: Provides assessment and mental health services to students at Kiefer school. Provides ongoing support to school personnel, students, and families. POSITION PROFILE: A School-Based Therapist provides direct clinical services to students. These services include individual, group and family therapy as well as case management services. The therapist will consult with administration, teachers, social workers, and counselors regarding student and school specific issues. The therapist will advocate for students at school service meetings such as IEP meetings. Additionally, the therapist will provide linkage to outside services as needed.  A School-Based Therapist will develop, offer, and perform a wide range of staff trainings and follow up support on topics like classroom management. The School-Based Therapist would also positively represent the program and agency at internal and external groups/meetings.  An average day for a School-Based Therapist could involve multiple individual or group therapy sessions, crisis management, extensive collaboration with teachers and administrators to support and educate on mental health issues, internal or external meetings, and completing clinical notes on a daily/weekly basis.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field (LCSW or LCPC preferred). Experience and/or other training preparing one to work with multi-problem youth in their own homes, schools and other agencies. Strong interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively relate to youth, families, community agencies and referral sources; ability to work independently and as an active team member; ability to handle job related matters in a professional, diplomatic and confidential manner. Speaking and hearing ability to allow for effective oral communication of information.
