Position Summary
The Reading and Math Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics interventions to students in grades 4–8. The Interventionist works with individual students and small groups to identify and address academic skill gaps through research-based, data-driven interventions. This position collaborates closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to monitor student progress, adjust interventions, and support students in achieving meaningful academic growth.
The Reading and Math Interventionist plays an important role in the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) by coordinating and delivering targeted interventions designed to accelerate student learning, strengthen foundational skills, and reduce academic achievement gaps.
Job Duties & Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver targeted Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics interventions to individual students and small groups.
- Use student assessment data, screening results, progress-monitoring data, classroom performance, and other relevant information to identify academic skill gaps and determine appropriate intervention needs.
- Implement research-based intervention programs and strategies with fidelity.
- Provide targeted reading instruction addressing skills such as phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, written language, and other areas of literacy as appropriate.
- Provide targeted mathematics instruction addressing skills such as number sense, computation, mathematical fluency, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and other areas of mathematics as appropriate.
- Develop intervention plans and instructional goals based on student needs and available assessment data.
- Monitor student progress regularly and use data to determine whether interventions should be continued, intensified, modified, or faded.
- Maintain accurate records of student intervention participation, instructional data, progress-monitoring results, and intervention outcomes.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention instruction with grade-level curriculum and classroom expectations.
- Collaborate with special education teachers and related service providers when students receiving interventions also receive special education services or other supports.
- Participate in MTSS/RtI problem-solving meetings and assist teams in analyzing student data and determining appropriate levels of intervention.
- Communicate student progress and intervention outcomes with classroom teachers, administrators, families, and other appropriate staff.
- Assist teachers in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions for students who are struggling academically.
- Support the development and implementation of individualized intervention plans for students receiving Tier II and Tier III support.
- Assist in the administration and interpretation of universal screening, diagnostic assessments, and progress-monitoring measures as appropriate.
- Provide feedback and recommendations regarding student progress and next steps for intervention.
- Maintain a structured, organized, and supportive intervention environment that promotes student engagement, perseverance, and academic confidence.
- Utilize positive behavior supports, restorative practices, and trauma-informed strategies to support student engagement and success.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information in accordance with FERPA and applicable laws.
- Participate in professional development, curriculum planning, MTSS/RtI training, school improvement efforts, and district initiatives as applicable.
