Superintendent Niles ESD 71

Duties

An Exceptional Leadership Opportunity

The Board of Education of Niles Elementary School District 71 seeks an outstanding educational leader as its next Superintendent of Schools, beginning July 1, 2027.

District 71 is a high-performing, one-school suburban district serving approximately 660 students in preschool through eighth grade at Clarence E. Culver School. Located in Niles, just northwest of Chicago, the District combines the close relationships of a small school community with the programs and expectations of a strong suburban district. Culver is a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) school, with a strong commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and student learning.

The District's size allows the superintendent to connect with students, staff, families, the Board of Education, and the community. The next superintendent will join an experienced leadership team and talented staff who value strong teaching, high expectations, thoughtful improvement, and personal attention to students.

Clarence E. Culver School serves students from preschool through eighth grade on one campus, ensuring continuity in students' educational experiences and strong relationships among children, families, and staff. The school offers a broad educational program that includes core academics, fine arts, technology, athletics, extracurricular opportunities, and services that meet a wide range of learning needs.

District 71 is supported by an engaged community, an active parent organization, a committed Board of Education, and a professional staff that knows its students well. Culver was designated Commendable on the 2025 Illinois Report Card, and the District continues to focus on strong academic growth and continuous improvement.

The Community

Niles is a well-established suburban community immediately northwest of Chicago, offering convenient access to the city and the surrounding northern and northwestern suburbs. The community includes residential neighborhoods, extensive parks and recreation opportunities, shopping and restaurants, public transportation, library services, and a strong network of local organizations. District 71 serves a diverse community whose families place a high value on education.

The Next Superintendent

The Board is seeking an educational leader who appreciates the advantages of leading a small, high-quality school district and who wants to become an active and visible member of the Culver School community. Candidates will be evaluated on their professional accomplishments, leadership experience, and demonstrated ability to be a strong match for District 71. Our superintendent:

  • Keeps students at the center of decision-making and maintains high expectations for their academic, social, and emotional growth.

  • Is an accomplished instructional leader with a strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and the effective use of Professional Learning Communities to support collaboration and student achievement.

  • Values and supports excellent teachers and staff and builds a professional culture of trust, collaboration, and growth.

  • Is visible, accessible, and comfortable being personally connected to students, employees, families, and community members.

  • Builds productive relationships with the Board of Education and understands the respective roles of the Board and superintendent.

  • Communicates clearly, listens carefully, and develops trust with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment in school finance, personnel, facilities, and district operations.
