Duties

The major responsibilities of the Teacher:

1. Plan a program of study that, insofar as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.

2. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the places and at the times designated.

3. Pepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.

4. Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

5. Encourage students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior.

6. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, to that end, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like, to communicate these objectives to students.

7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and the instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

8. Implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

9. Adhere to the policies, regulations and procedures of the district.

10. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as needed.

11. Work cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of individual students with specialized needs.

12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, including supervising lunchroom and playground activities, supervising students in the hallway, and inspecting classrooms each day for hazardous conditions to ensure safety and avoid property and/or tort loss.

13. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

14. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; attend staff meetings and serve on committees.

15. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

16. Be available to students and parents for conferences and education-related purposes.

17. Maintain and improve professional competence.

18. Meet accepted standards of professional behavior.

19. Participate in district staff development activities.

20. Cooperate with building principal and supervisors in professional activities related to teaching and pupil-supervision tasks.

21. Perform such other professional duties as the Board of Education may direct.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

1. Hold a valid Professional Educator License with appropriate subject matter endorsements.

2. Commitment to a continuous staff development program.
