Duties
2024-2025 Orchestra Director (Part-Time; 1 Year Assignment) at Northbrook Junior High (NBJH)
Salary: Commensurate with experience; prorated based on part-time position
Benefits Eligibility: Eligible for part-time benefits for certified personnel
Work Year: 8/19/2024 - 6/3/2025
Days Off: 10 holidays plus winter break (10 days) and spring break (5 days)
Schedule: 8:15am - 3:45pm; prorated daily work days based on part-time position
Qualifications & Licensure:
- Illinois Professional Educator License with Endorsement for Music for grades Kindergarten through Grade 8 (or Grade 12)
- Strong knowledge of orchestra instrument pedagogy, repertoire, and rehearsal techniques
- Ability to lead large string orchestras as a player and conductor
- Knowledge of string instrument maintenance
- Belief in the importance of inclusion, diversity, equity in music education and demonstrated applications in practice
- Effective lesson and rehearsal planning that differentiates for individual student needs
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and be flexible and dynamic in the classroom
- Strong knowledge of child development
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making
Reports to:
Principal and Assistant Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the planning, implementation and delivery of the ensemble curriculum, as aligned with department goals
- Work collaboratively with members of the Orchestra Team, Music Department colleagues, administration, faculty, support staff and the District 28 Music Parents Club
- Teach private/semi-private lessons on violin and/or viola
- Monitor progress of individual students and large ensemble
- Direct or assist with student performances throughout the school year (scheduled to be prorated based on part-time position)
- Communicate and collaborate with professionals in all four school buildings
- Integrate technology into the learning program when appropriate to enhance curriculum and communication
- Participate in curriculum planning
- Assist with the selection and recommendation of materials, equipment and other instructional resources for the learning program
- Perform other duties as assigned

10 Month Part-Time Position; 1 Year Assignment for 2024-2025 School Year

About the District 28 Music Department:
Educating students from pre-K through 8th grade, the District 28 Music Department provides a high-quality music education, enabling each student to experience meaningful personal growth. Our faculty seeks to bring the district's vision and mission to life by providing deep, inspirational, and motivational learning experiences to every student. The department enjoys tremendous support from students, parents, faculty, administration, and the wider Northbrook community. The district music program consists of general music classes (pre-K through 5), music electives (grades 6-8), and performing ensembles for choir (5-8), orchestra (3-8), and band (4-8).
About District 28 Orchestras:
Northbrook 28 Orchestra program consists of 5 performing groups: Beginning (3rd), Cadet (4th), String (5th), Philharmonic (6th & 7th), and Chamber Orchestra (7th & 8th). In addition to morning orchestra rehearsals (before school), students receive a private/semi-private lesson once each week during the school day. Ensemble music is chosen to support student learning in lessons. Students perform many times throughout the year in various concerts, solo or ensemble recitals, contests, and community outreach events. Each orchestra director specializes in one of the orchestra instruments. We are seeking a candidate who specializes in ((((violin and/or viola)))).
